Our Story

A letter from the Coach

Supporter of W.T. White Baseball,

The W.T. White Baseball program has a long winning tradition in Dallas. We have overcome incredible obstacles to become one of the most respected and competitive teams in the North Texas region. While we have over 30 years of playoff runs in the school history, our team is still training in outdated facilities that are many decades old.

Our field, batting cages, and locker room (which is a converted shipping container) are some of the most neglected facilities in the area.

Despite these impediments, our program has produced successful MLB players as well as collegiate athletes. Neighborhood children have grown up hearing tales of our MLB alumni such as Trey Beamon and Reid Scoggins who played under the legendary Coach Shepherd at W.T. White. Jake McKenzie became a viral star in April 2018 after playing all nine positions in one game for the University of Texas. Dylan Barth found success playing outfield for U.C. San Diego. Recent graduates Cason Sherrod and Bryan Holaday have both signed major league contracts for the Marlins. Calvin Murray played five seasons in the MLB for teams such as the Cubs, Rangers, and Giants. While we have many alumni reaching their dreams, we still struggle to update our facilities.

Being in a major public school district, we often rely on community support to provide the equipment needed to compete with the more affluent suburban schools. Any assistance that is provided to the Longhorn program is put directly back into the student athletes through equipment, clothing, and facilities. We have big ambitions for improving the W.T. White field (aptly named Shepherd’s Field after our former coach of over thirty years) and we are working hard to show the worth of our program. With safer upgrades, we will see an increase in community attendance and crowd size. One of our goals is to provide a better experience for neighborhood children and their families to come enjoy a ball game.

On behalf of all current, past, and future W.T. White Longhorns, we appreciate your support for our student athletes and this historic Dallas baseball program.

Thank you in advance,
